Milan, August 14th 2026 – BetaGlue® Therapeutics S.p.A. (“BetaGlue”), a clinical-stage oncology company developing an innovative radiotherapy platform for the targeted and personalised treatment of unresectable solid tumours, called YntraDose®, announced today the publication in Nuclear Medicine and Biology of a peer-reviewed article entitled: “In vivo preclinical evaluation of YntraDose™ in pig’s lung: A pilot study of a 90Y-microsphere device implantation.”
The study, carried out at Fondazione Policlinico Universitario “A. Gemelli” IRCCS in Rome, is the first in vivo evaluation of YntraDose administration into lung tissue. Seven healthy Landrace pigs received ultrasound-guided percutaneous injections of YntraDose into two lung lobes (5 ml and 10 ml, 150–185 MBq) and were followed over 21 days with PET/CT imaging, dosimetry, necropsy and histological analysis. The findings were:
- YntraDose could be injected and polymerised within lung tissue, forming a localised implant visible both on imaging and at necropsy;
- No activity above the limit of detection was measured outside the injected lung — in whole blood or in the contralateral lung, heart, kidneys, liver, intestine and bladder — indicating no detectable systemic spread of 90Y;
- Estimated absorbed doses ranged from 342.5 to 786.0 Gy, with necrosis localised around the deposition site and extending approximately 1 to 1.5 cm from its centre;
- A marked inflammatory response was observed, with IL-1β, IL-6 and IL-8 positive cells distributed throughout the tissue.
The authors conclude that YntraDose can be successfully injected and polymerised in lung tissue, even at high radioactivity levels, and that these results support further preclinical studies using optimised, clinically relevant 90Y activities to evaluate the potential of YntraDose for localised lung tumour ablation.
This is a preclinical study conducted in healthy animals. YntraDose® is an investigational product and is not approved for use in lung indications.
The article is published open access and is available at https://doi.org/10.1016/j.nucmedbio.2026.109658.
